BADFINGER & THE CONCERT FOR BANGLADESH AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN - AUGUST 1, 1972
Three of the four members of Badfinger played at the Concert for Bangladesh staged by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar. The show featured the first live appearance of two of the four Beatles (George & Ringo), Leon Russell, Eric Clapton, and Billy Preston. The special guest star who joined the bill at the last minute was Bob Dylan. It had been years since Dylan had appeared before a live audience.
Badfinger members Pete Ham, Tom Evans, and Joey Molland were on hand for perhaps their biggest concert they had ever taken part .
The event was spectacular. The concerts (there were two due to the demand for tickets) spawned a four album record set and a movie that was shown around the world. It had it's rough spots, but after the record companies grabbed their share, there was a pile of money for the United Nations Relief Fund for Bangladesh.
Pete Ham performed "Here Comes the Sun" in a duet with George Harrison. The group, albeit forgotten by George during the introductions, was credited for their acoustic accompaniment.
The album set was released in time for Christmas. Two months later, they were playing at Calvert Hall.
